After leaving the A/C plugged in and all appliances turned off in my travel trailer over night, I use a multimeter to check the voltage of the 12-V deep-cycle batteries at their terminals and find the voltage to be around 11.5 volts. The wall monitor shows 3 (out of 4) lights for the battery. Next I turn on a ceiling light (DC current) and run the microwave (A/C current) for a short time. After about 3 seconds the intensity of the ceiling light increases, the wall monitor goes to 4 lights, and the battery voltage reads around 13.5 volts. I have repeated this procedure several times, always with nearly the same voltage results.
Can anyone explain the DC voltage increase after drawing more A/C current for a few seconds? Is this an indication that the converter is not working properly? I have cleaned all of the battery connections and other connector points near the batteries. I have also checked the battery acid levels. My concern is that if I camp where A/C hookups are not available I will not have full DC capacity.
