While I had the stroker in '72, I didn't have it long. I could never get the oil/gas mixture right so it smoked a lot--I was afraid to run it leaner for fear of seizing the engine (not unfounded). If it had been a V4 I probably would have kept it longer. I traded it for a TR4.
In the mid '80s I was selling VWs and Hondas and actually looked at a new '84 base Saab. But I ended up buying an new '85 Jetta mainly because I could get it for cost where I worked. Then I moved to Boulder, CO where I had a job selling Saabs and VW. While I liked Saabs, I was into buying new and they were just a bit too pricey for me. By '95 I had become disillusioned with VW (my last was a '91 Corrado) and bought a new Nissan Pathfinder. At the same time my son bought an '86 9000. I kept looking at his car and driving his car and it slowly begain to sink in that I liked his car better. I was making a big payment, he paid cash, and he had the better car. So after about a year I sold the Pathfinder and bought a beautiful red '89 Saab Turbo convertible. It's been nothing but used Saabs ever since--at least until recently. But that's going to change very soon.
