My 1st smartphone is sitting on the desk in front of me. I know iPhones well and they're very nice and use an iPod Touch sometimes. I figured I'd try something a little different with the Android OS, especially since Android 2.3 will be rolled out by HTC for the Incredible 2 sometime very soon.
As far as iPhone vs Android for me it was nice GUI but poor phone on the iPhone 4 vs. customizable but not quite as nice GUI and better phone with HTC. With Verizon you can return the phone in the 1st 14 days subject to a $35 restocking fee. I figured $2.50 a day to test drive a new phone I'd use for 2 years wasn't a bad deal. So far so good - as a heavy Gmail user the Gmail integration is good, and I'll be able to toss my crummy Garmin in favor of Google Maps and turn-by-turn navigation.
The HTC Inc 2 has a 4" screen - not too big for a pocket - and happens to be equipped with the Verizon CDMA and also GSM antennas so it can be used in Europe if you travel a lot. I didn't opt for a 4G phone because 1) as a first smartphone I can't miss what I don't have and 2) the 4G phones are bulkier and 3) 4G battery life sucks.
