1500 watts is about 100 amps input at 15 volts, with more amps for lower input voltage and to cover inverter efficiency.
The alternator for a 96 9K is rated for 110 amps at 6000 alternator RPM.
Figure on using much less than 1500W, maybe half that or less. It is rated for 60 amps at 1800 RPM. The alternator turns 2.8 times faster than the engine. So at idle you would have about 60 amps or about 840 watts out of the alternator.
How long can you idle on a tank of gas? Gas might be hard to obtain for some days after the big blow, keep some in reserve for driving about.
