If the warranty is backed by Saab, and Saab goes under, then, sure, the warranty goes down with the ship.
With my 2010 Saab, I bought a "Major Guard" Protection Plan from...GM! Even though GM no longer owned Saab, they were still selling extended warranties for them.
Under the plan agreement, my coverage extends from "the date and mileage [I] purchased the agreement, and ends on 12/29/2016 or at 100,051 miles, whichever occurs first." It's bumper to bumper. No deductible. And it covers any failure except regular maintenance service and associated parts, except for stuff listed under "What this agreement does not cover." And "what this agreement does not cover" does NOT include, for example, "stuff your regular Saab warranty would have covered, had Saab not gone bankrupt." What it says is that it won't cover any claim "subject to any warranty, vehicle manufacturer recall or guarantee issued by the vehicle manufacturer or repairer." But if the warranty from Saab is nonexistent due to Saab's demise, then there are NO claims that would be "subject to any warranty or guarantee issued by the vehicle manufacturer." The warranty/guarantee would have expired with Saab (just as it would have expired after 3 years in the normal course -- but earlier).
So I'm thinking this GM protection plan might just turn out to have been the best investment I ever made.
