I'm starting to like getting to Limerock CT once in a while for the excellent racing mecca that it is. I don't race there, but it's a fun place to go and peruse the cars and take in the sights and sounds.

First time, a buddy and I stayed at a rotting fleabag motor inn. Then we stayed at a better place, but way further from the track. This last time, I was on my own, so I decided to stay in the Saab at the infield! This is against common sense advice from the women in my life who aren't so adventurous when it comes to cars.

My 1989 C900 turbo ran the 6 1/2 hours from Rockland ME to Lime Rock Park with no problems, averaging 30mpg! I was able to find my way in the dark to the track with no satnav, as I'd done it before in the day at the beginning of the summer. A 22 year old car is perfectly capable of running hard on the interstate, etc... I use it every day and keep it in reliable repair.

The biggest surprise for me was my seat. I have a sparco milano seat, partly because I had some back problems and like it's firmness and adjustable lumbar, and partly because it holds me in good. I'd never gone more than 2-3 hours in the seat. 6 1/2 hours and my back was just as comfortable and relaxed as when I got in! It's not a cushy seat, but it's comfortable, kinda smaller, lower, firmer than a viggen or aero seat.

Once at the park (at 11pm) and into the camping area, I got ready for bed in back by putting out a sleeping pad, blanket, and pillow. The 6' of space in back of a c900 hatchback is enough for me to sleep diagonal in back just fine. The back side windows provided adequate ventilation.

In the morning, I was greeted to the sight of lots of other car crazy travelers chamoising their cars from the thunderstorms and dew. Check out the reaaallly nice blue Saab 99 in my photos.

At home in my office, I have this nice B&W poster of two Briggs Cunningham jaguars. As soon as I walked down over the hill at limerock from the infield toward the paddock, I saw that very car I've lusted over for years. I had to pinch myself. D-type, lotuses, E-type, Porsches, half burnt racing gas, people revving race engines, it's a nice way to spend a day.

I drove back in similar comfort and economy that got me there, and even got home a little faster as our stretch of route-1 wasn't so busy late that night.

I shot >200 digital photos, 6 rolls of medium format B&W film, and 20 sheets of B&W large format film. It's a busy time of year for work, so I'm lucky to have time to even get through the digitals.
