Oh, I agree with you, that would have happened for sure... but it would *also* be incorrect scientifically ;-)...
you note below that you use voice activated dialing, so that avoids the worst of it imho... hands free would give you faster reaction time in an emergency maneuver scenario (vs drop the phone/grab the wheel)... banning hands free is probably over the top... it's true that there are many other "legal" distractions... eg the map... in drivers' ed, one of the important steps (before starting the car) is "plan your route"... I rarely have a map in the car (or gps)... I plan my route before I go... another example was "man killed by bee" - head on collision due to looking down to swish a bee off his pants while driving... ignore bee, drive car... most of this is just common sense, and in some sense, you're right, you can't legislate that!
