I think most people are reacting irrationally.... If you buy a car that costs you say, 15-20k LESS than you would, I'm quite honestly certain you'll likely NEVER require to spend that much on warranty items. Even if your engine blew up and you were down 5k, it'd STILL be cheaper than a new car with a warranty.
The reality is, you likely won't need the warranty as much as you think you will. And if you do, you already saved 20k! Think of that as your warranty. My goodness, it's completely irrational! The whole warranty deal is more psychological than anything else. Sure, if you buy the car at the original price, it makes great sense...but at such savings....I truly wouldn't car, especially if parts will still be around, which by the sounds of it, it will since it's a profitable sector.
For most of us here, who are so used to doing things themselves, I'd say this is likely the best time to buy a new Saab. Of course, I am not happy about the current situation but if it is what it is, on the positive side, this is quite good.
If you have a new Saab, drive it. There's nothing better. Try and be more careful, sure, but drive it!
