Having done it (E CAnada to AK) more times than I can remember, and mostly in crappy high mileage vehicles, I find it amusing to read the hysteria and paranoia in some of the early posts in this thread.

THe AK highway was fairly rough in parts during the 80s through early 90s, but its all easy sailing now. You might hit bits of gravel if construction is underway, but that can happen on any highway.

Take your time. The scenery is great, especially in Northern BC and western Yukon. There's great camping enroute.
