European (foreign) no longer that different.

One thing that's changed is that 20 or 30 years ago
foreign cars, European especially, were really different.
My dad's doctor had a Citroen. Another friend had a
Karman Ghia convertible. My highschool friend had
a fiat (well, 2, she racked up the first one) and her
sister had a Peugeot. I had a saab 95 V4 wagon.
These were all strange, weird, quirky FOREIGN cars.
"Oh, he drives a foreign car" was almost a put-down,
or at least a warning about being a bit strange. T
oday it's difficult to even define foreign
vs domestic. The ford and the vw we looked at last
year were both built in Mexico.
Today with the cost of developing a new car, and the global
marketplace there isn't that much different between a Ford
Fusion, a Mazda 6, or whatever the comparable Nissan is, at
least not like the world difference between my mom's GM station
wagon and the little Fiat 128.
