function was 4 times as long lasting , a full century vs. a quarter century, from dust to dust.
IMHO, a big corporation enjoying a significantly monopolistic market position is like a Mini-Me version of the government: the institution attracts careerists instead of entrepreneurs. The Yes-Men and Salarimen further insulate the 2nd/3rd generation leaders from real changes in the market place, while the entire organization engages in navel-gazing basking in the glory of their own pedigree (academic degrees make that narscisist self-indulgence all the easier). That's why individual freedom of choice on the part of the consumers is extremely important. Mussolini style government-industry cartelization and committee price-setting (aka fasc*sm) inevitably stifles and destroys the economy.
