I did my research, and bought a '10 BMW 335d. It's the best car I've ever owned, hands down, even though I love my three Saabs. While I don't pay for AdBlue fill ups now, what it does do is clean up the NOx emissions enough that the car is actually cleaner than a 328i or 335i. Add in 425lb/ft of torque, 36mpg highway, and 0-60 in 5.3 secs, and in my mind it's the perfect balance of performance and economy.
I'll wait to see how much AdBlue costs once my warranty expires...sadly, there's so much technology that can go wrong in these new cars (sat nav, comfort access, electronic everything) that it makes me fearful once the warranty expires. Filling it up with AdBlue will be the least of my worries.
What's sad is that BMW may not bring the new F30 bodystyle in the diesel. I'd love to see a 2 liter diesel 320d here in the US.
