What if a seller sends you some crappy item?
An example - I have ordered a used 9-5 cup holder on eBay. It arrived with signs of repair - some poor quality epoxy fix - which was not disclosed in the description. Because I paid with PayPal I threatened to file a claim and we negotiated reduced price for the item. Another example - the seller sent me a different model camera from the one shown on the ebay and refused to issue a refund afterwards. So I filed a dispute and got all my money back. What do you think would have happened if you paid with a money order?
Your examples about rogue employees inside PayPal stealing your bank or credit card info are totally baseless. As I said - your banking and credit card information is already at every place where you pay with a check or a credit card. Since there are many more places like this the probability of identity theft there is much higher (with many examples in the media).
By the way, it is almost impossible to make money from stolen bank information - that is why it is in plain view on every check. So why be so paranoid protecting it?
