There appear to be almost no decent writers or editors working at car magazines these days.
Or maybe there are but they are shackled to the formula-like writing of reviews of test drives; inserting the proper superlatives and negatives, the disparaging comments, the snarky remarks, the qualified positive statements, and the glowing adoration of anything with a blue and white roundel on the hood. Etc.
The publishers demand this drivel because they think it's what people want to read and they are still wrapped up in the idea that because they have a published magazine they are more important than a mere website. And worse, they think that the same stuff they serve up in their magazines plays well on the Web.
It'd be great to have Jalopnik prove them wrong. It'd be nice to have car mags be like Car and Driver, Road and Track and Automobile were like before they all started using the same car review writing formula.
