I doubt that Mark meant that it's NEVER dangerous to pass on dbl-yellow, nor did I ever say that there shouldn't be ANY rules on how to safely ride a bike.
Let me say it again, as I've said it in both previous posts, yet apparently it's not obvious to all, I'm not necessarily condoning the actions of GFW's bad biker, nor the actions of all sportbike riders.
I'm just saying that people that don't ride "capable" bikes can't possibly comprehend the ability they have to make a quick pass in a very short distance, a pass that couldn't be considered (with the same level of safety) as a car.
That YouTube video could have had the same results even without a pass. Granted, following the pass the car was in the wrong lane to make the intersection, but he was also going too fast for that road's conditions.
I don't like passing multiple vehicles at the same time, even in my SAAB on a flat straight road w/o any left turn possibilities. But a quick pass on a single vehicle in a no-passing zone (without immediate left-turn capability) is done in a blink of an eye.
I also meant to throw a little bit of a bone to bikes that aren't confused with crotch rockets like mine. Most "pure" sport-tourers have more hp than my bike and even with their full compliment of bags some have better hp/weight ratio. Many also have quite capable handling abilities, albeit with a weight penalty. Even a GoldWing has some get-up-and-go, and I'm sure there are some piloted by riders who would leave me behind in the twisties. Now the cruiser guys, well, sure you can get off the line, but once rolling...
