I was driving tandem axle dumps every summer to earn my education, there was an old fart (younger than I am now) who bragged about being able to get his 18 wheeler tanker under a certain low bridge by hitting the brakes hard at just the right time so that the front of the tank went down on the tractor springs just as it came under, and then getting on the throttle to make the rear settle when he was halfway through. I expressed doubts that the rear part would work. On the other hand, we always had to be alert for farmers' electical wires crossing the road when we were spreading gravel or whatever with the truck's box hoisted way up to dump.
On the other hand, my father-in-law (still vigorous at 94) likes to talk about one of the pilots in his B-26 unit (397th) who, after the liberation of Paris, went and measured and flew a B-26 through under the arches of the Eifel Tower (5' clearance on each side). The fact that he succeeded can be proven by examining his court martial documents. The next day the French authorities hung cables down from the arches.
