Owned a mini Copper S in '70 raced it in SCCA C Sedan for a while. Seriously Fun toy. Once '73? bought an Austin America, $50 with 20K on the odo. Used it as a second/third car for years. Very goofy suspension dead slooow and subject to a myriad of niggling mech failures.
Rust wasn't an issue tho as it was made of quite thick steel
Moulton had a (the?) large part in designing the MINI.
A notable achievement by any yardstick. His rubber do nuts as springs was v clever and outstandingly effective, but more suited to performance driving than comfort.
The Hydrolastic, commonly referred to as Hydrospastic suspension, was his later 'comfort' development.. it proved laughable in real life.
Connected diagonally (only!) squashing one corner raised the diagonal rear one. Compressing both fronts, as in braking sent the rear end up...lots.
Doesn't take much imagination to guess as what it was like on the road/real life.
How it ever made it into production boggles the imagination.
Moulton also designed a folding Bicycle :-)
