Think of it as scope creep. We take special orders all day long. At one point in time a customer likely called and asked for Moog so we provided. After that sometimes the engine just runs. So when the item came in we pictured, then the next person ordered etc. If we don't order an item frequently the prices of other items that we do order frequently get changed around it, all of the sudden it looks more attractive. Do that a few times and all of the sudden we'll have 4 or 5 ball joints available for the same application and only 1 in stock, ugh.
The last three months of my life have been spent actually cross-referencing and trimming down our products back to our direct vendors. In the last year of Todd's life and then after his passing we were very inconsistent in ordering from our normal vendors, that's when most of these products started popping up.
So in this instance it has nothing to do with quality just efficiency. If I order direct consistently I can give it to you guys at a better price. If I have 5 flavors of an item then the chances that I can keep ordering it from my directs goes way down.
Moog makes a good aftermarket product. When we used to race stock lower control arms in our late model we only bought Moog because they were the only ball joint we didn't have to replace every 3 races.
