Question: What industries do you see as growing in the next five years? Energy? Oil and gas sound OK but I'm not interested in wind or solar. Transportation? Nah... Medical devices? My background is as an engineer / manager in advanced materials development so the medical device industry may be a fit. Any experience out there with medical devices, implants, etc?
Background: I turned 54 last November and have just under 25 years with the same company (defense industry). Because of a leadership consolidation, I was told before the holidays that my job was ending around the end of March and that I needed to find a new job. I'm not thrilled at the prospect of being out of work for the first time in my life because trying to find work in your 50s is allegedly a tough thing to do but, in a wierd way, I'm also not too unhappy either. I'm burned out, tired of the stress, already had a (mild) heart attack and don't want a second one, etc. Not going to starve financially for at least a year but after that I don't know.
Any ideas on where to start this career change besides the unemployment office?
