its a good way to leverage your knowledge and experience. companies are more often than not willing to pay for outside help when they can't handle things internally due to lack of resourcing levels or expertise. if you go this route, you don't have to retool, you can start on your own or find a firm specializing in your industry. if you have a good roladex, and can potentially bring in business to the firm, you may have an even better chance of doing well. just a thought. i'm in consulting and there are a number of ways to leverage prior work experience to do well. good luck.
