rust paint suggestions needed Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Mon, 28 Jan 2013 06:49:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This is for a c900, but I figure it's best to ask on the general bb to poll a wider audience + because it is of general interest.
So I have an exhaust tunnel that has lost some paint: heat shield rusted through and heat from cat etc probably baked the paint, but there's definitely paint gone and surface rust happening.
Normally, I would use POR15 in this application, but it requires something like a week of sunny dry weather >20 degrees C to do it properly, and it is winter here! I do however have a window of tropical weather in the forecast: >10 degrees C (for 1 day), so that combined with cranking a heater in the garage might let me paint something that will go on >10C and dry quickly (I should be able to keep the temp of air, paint, and surfaces >10C for a while but >20C is pushing it this time of year in an uninsulated garage)... This will be done in tandem with replacing a full exhaust and heat shield (done all of this before, but takes time).
so... anyone know a good rust paint that will go on at 10 degrees C and dry fairly quick? I've tried some of those rust eating primers, with not great results... has anyone had success with something other than POR15? This is no beauty contest, it is simply protective - under the body of the winter beater, hidden by a heat shield!
thanks!
