For a while, Subaru of America had a racetrack out behind their headquarters in Pennsauken, NJ where you could pay to do a few laps in modified Subaru 360s. They couldn't give those things away after a while and made a few $$$ off them any way they could.
I remember when Subaru opened their then-new headquarters in Cherry Hill in the mid-1980s, the grand opening was open to the public. I drove over my Subaru 360 sedan and had a friend drive the 360 van. A company exec was giving a presentation (might have even been Harvey Lamm), and when he saw those vehicles pull in you could practically see the color drain out of his face. At that time Subaru considered the 360 line in America to be skeletons long forgotten and locked away in the closet. (They have since relented and the company will sometimes display a restored 360 at events.)
The wackiest Subaru I'm aware of was the X-100 Gyronaut, a one-off vehicle designed by Alex Tremulis of Tucker fame who worked for a time as a Subaru design consultant. The car achieved 100 miles per gallon.
