When I turned 16 I viciously started the hunt for cheap European cars. Mostly old Jettas, older Audi's, and even older BMW's. I had loved the look of the 9-5 since the first time I saw one in 5th grade, but they were out of my price range as a 16 year old. My father's boss happened to have a four year old 9-5 with 160k miles on it that needed about $3k worth of DI cassettes, catalytic converters, and brakes. Bought the thing for cheap and used Saabnet as a resource to learn to do most of that by myself and to learn that the DI cassette recall would cover a new DIC and a catalytic converter (failed due to DIC failure). It was a 2001 SE V6, an engine that is usually bashed to smithereens here, but I thought I was hot sh*t. I loved that car and loved learning about it and how everything worked and how to fix it. I would spend hours just reading Saabnet posts, and I sadly now know way too much about them.

Saabnet ended up being one of my only social outlets during some of my confusing and introverted late teen/early college years. But I eventually got out there and met a LOT of people and today I have a very strong social circle based mostly on people I've met through various Saab shows and shenanigans.

Naturally, I had to replace the V6 9-5 with an '04 Aero in college. I got a job and had some extra cash, and I knew someday my daily driver might not be able to be a Saab, so I added a c900 convertible as a permanent fixture to the collection so I would always have an "in" to the Saab community. Mileage quickly accumulated on the Aero with work travel and I replaced that with the Turbo-X I drive today.
