Winter surfing is big in Michigan too--supposedly when it's they get the best waves. I like to kayak in the winter myself, as long as there's open water. I lived in Florida for a few years and nice weather all the time is kind of...boring. There's something about the challenge winter weather that's invigorating. When a big blizzard blows in my reaction is to strap on my snowshoes and go out to see what it's made of. I guess it's sort of a thing with people who live in the north country to get outside and challenge the elements. Might be a way of keeping our sanity (or lack of).
