CA state trooper was very local.. Very local, car was a Lexus loaner. The dealership receptionist had fielded a complaint from the previous borrower about loose floor mats sticking the throttle. The keyless ignition may have been a contributing factor, but you would think a trained California Highway Patrol officer and professional driver would shift into neutral or figure out how to shut it off. Definitely a floor mat issue.
Another example where even discussing a possible defect and the possible ramifications, just acknowledging that there might be a problem, throws the manufacturer under the bus. Unintended acceleration conspiracies have never been proved, not with Toyota, not with Audi, but they have cost makers both zillions. As a result of all the hoopla depressing the brake closes the throttle on Toyota products now.
