Good advice from Turbocon86
I would add that this is a normal procedure for virtually all communities that have property taxes.
You should check with the town to make certain that they are doing a reevaluation and who the company is and what their process is. I am sure there has been information in the local press about this. Also check the municipal webpage and check the tax assessor's section. If you don't let them in, assumptions are made. You don't usually lose any rights to an appeal when the evaluation is done. You typically get a copy and there is an appeal process defined. You then can meet with the company and go over the details of the evaluation and question them and appeal them. If you have problems with your property or items that you think will result in a lower evaluation you should let them in - just ask for the company's credentials first to make sure they are legit. I am in Rhode Island and RI cities and towns are required by law to update their evaluation every five years. Property tax rates are then adjusted based on the new total evaluation in the town. It's a fair process with an appeal process. good luck
