When I purchased my home about 10yrs ago, stored in the basement was a cache of new, solid oak 3/4 to 1" thick parquet flooring in original cardboard boxes. Probably enough by my calculations to cover the unfinished upstairs portion of the home. The basement is just concrete, unfinished and subject to moisture ups and downs. This flooring has been down there for over 40 years I would guess. That said, it SMELLS like it's been down there for 40 years. It's really nice stuff, and I would really like to make use of it. I put a bunch of it outside in the fresh air for a couple of weeks protected from rain, in hopes of airing it out. It still smells. Anyone have any ideas how to deodorize this wood? Dunking it in some type of solution, then dry it out? I fear that would damage the wood? Thanks in advance for your advice as always.
