Not here in Chicago, but perhaps where you live. Yes, they do have multiple pledge drives though the year, but each one lasts less than a week. For the specials, they seem to show a lot of concerts that might appeal to other than their core subscribers.
The also hold a sweepstakes to raise additional money. My business donated one of the prizes, which turns out to be a very good advertising value for a highly desirable demographic. Grand prize is a new Subaru Outback, the modern equivalent of a Volvo station wagon for this group :) .
