The "Golden Era" for VW's

I got a job selling VW's in '83. My first demo was a Wolfs Burg edition Rabbit--what a difference from the carbureted ones (which they continued to sell as entry level cars). After that I had half a dozen '84 GTI's as demos and wanted to buy everyone of them. My favorite was the white with blue interior. By '84 the GTI engine and suspension was in the GLI, Sirocco, and Cabriolet. They were all cars that are still my bench mark for light and fun to drive. I liked the Quantum too. Then in '85 they came out with the new Golf and Jetta which was a quantum (get it) leap and head a shoulders better than the Hondas we also sold. I almost bought an '84 GLI but then ended up with an '85 Jetta which turned out to be one of my favorite cars ever. Then they added the 16 valve engine which was frosting on the cake. By then I was out of the car business. Then I bought a '90 Jetta which I didn't much care for. Traded it for a new '91 Corrado. VW really went off the rails about that time, but I agree that the Siroccos of the era were great cars. Be fun to drive one now.
