Do not have the depth of knowledge you have, but do have some experience. Ended up moving my 92yo aunt from the Portland Or. area to Toledo. She had simply used up all of her savings, and did not have any good options.

My mom lived in her 2 story that had laundry in the basement and her computer up stairs until 91, and she had ALS-aka Lou Gerig's disease. She moved into a good CCRC, and went south very quickly.

In both cases we investigated a number of options for progressive care, and to be honest most places are pretty bad, and they all feel like institutions, though the best couple % try to be less so. My impression is that most people coming in are in their late 70s to mid 80s. And these places are really expensive even if you don't require assisted living options.

Most of the people I know that are in your situation either stay put in their homes or find a condo or other single story option in an area of like minded people or friends. They can keep an eye on each other, and if more care is needed you can hire it in cheaper than a facility. I'm guessing this option is less than 1/4 of CCRC, and you get to do things more freely. Anyway, that is the direction I'm going....
