Turns out it was a badly corroded ground strap. There was absolutely no reason for a new PCM. My mechanic said he checked the grounds and they all looked fine. It seems he either lied to me or??? Another mechanic dealing with the alternator issue found the problem and went ahead an fixed it without my consent. It looks like it was an easy fix. He didn't charge me for parts, but 1.5 hours in labor. This whole thing has been so frustrating. Do I have any recourse other than looking for a new shop? I don't like tossing away $1,000 for nothing.
