Had a set on my 9K that I swapped to a daughter's car ('99 9-3SE) when I took the 9K off the road for a winter. She ran them all winter and through a summer. Didn't get noisy until they had about 30K on them. Are now marginal in snow, but still better than an all season. Those are 205/60 x 15.
Have a set on my wife's 9-5 wagon and they are better than the Dunlops it had for winter boots before. (215/55x16).
Have a one-year-old set on other daughter's car, a '00 9-3 SE HOT and they seem to get through anything (205/60x15).
The Altimax Arctic aren't as nice on dry roads the usual summer tires (Bridgestone Serenity) but are quiet and handle OK--for a winter tire. Can't go over 100, but that's OK.
I've had Hakkas and Blizzaks and they are nice but not worth the money, IMHO. For about $70-80/tire the Generals do a fine job.
I just mount them on old beater alloys that are straight but ugly.
