Yup. Mt Vernon or John Day on US 26 seem ideal locations from a weather standpoint. (I can only imagine how amazing the ocean near Newport would look under the light of a solar eclipse if one could guarantee clear skies)
I've looked at a website greatamericaneclipse for individual state maps. They note that local traffic will be oppressive almost anywhere you go. Madras might be overrun.
If I end up going, I'm prepared to rough camp the night before. Campsites and hotels are already gone.
