You got me there. In my Sonett (no turbo), yes, RPM management is important and also in my 9-2X Aero which is my daily driver. But I felt it to be true in my 1983 900 Turbo too... I got the best performance when I managed my RPMs appropriately and avoided turbo lag which, to me, and it was a long time ago, seemed higher than 2000 rpm. I drove my daughter to camp today in my wife's 2010 9-3X Wagon and it did seem like the turbo responded quicker and I said to myself, I need to take this thing out and really drive it to get a feel for how it compares to my 9-2X.
