Saab always worked towards the idea of a "transparent turbo" but there were obvious technology limitations back in the '70s and '80s. DI/APC was the first big step in reducing turbo lag and creating a powerful engine that didn't drive like a turbocharged engine. With the T5 and every subsequent engine they better and better at creating that transparent experience. The T8 and ME9 cars are superb in that regard. High compression, fun ignition & throttle tricks, and small turbos create a very seamless drive. There is no real need to manage RPMs - these engines drive just like a big displacement engine without actually being one. It's good stuff. Saab gave that concept to the world, and now everyone benefits from it.
LOL: My Captcha is SCANIA, the Saab logo is even visible. :D
