A well-designed gasoline car can go 20-30 years or more without requiring major repairs that will require thousands of dollars. You are making the assumption that everyone is going to have solar panels and "free" electricity to power a several thousand dollar battery pack that might (or might not) last 10 years, and may well have lost a lot of capacity towards the end of that time. (Also it is probably more than just several thousand dollars, that's the price range of a hybrid battery pack. Pure electric will be more expensive.) I do not believe that lithium-ion batteries are a good solution to the problem of a vehicular power source.

For most people electricity costs money, many have no place to charge an electric car, and the free ride with respect to road taxes is going to end. So it is not going to be "10 years of free driving" at all. Add to that the increased initial cost of an electric car, and from what I can see it is almost all negatives at the present time even factoring in the cost of gasoline and maintenance.
