We currently have Lexus ES300h and RAV4 Hybrid as our daily drivers. Fuel economy is excellent and both cars run on regular gas. We get around 40 mpg in Lexus and 35mpg in RAV4. If your commute is mostly urban you will love it.
Lexus is almost 5 years old with 104k on the odometer. I has essentially zero problems with it. Had to do both front and rear brakes prematurely as rotors tend to rust from under-use (most of the braking is regen). RAV4 we just got a couple of moths ago so cannot say much. From internet wisdom it seems that most hybrid batteries easily make it to 200-300k and beyond. When they fail they often can be refurbed just by replacing the bad cells.
Tech2 equivalent for Toyota is $20 VCI cable and free Techstream software. WIS is online access only ($20 per day) but you can print as much stuff as you want. Techstream can show you voltages/resistance of individual cells which may be of value if getting a car with a lot of miles.
