I'd go to a different tire store. You can easily go up a size on just about any car. As others have mentioned, each tire size differs by 10 mm width. I run 225/45R17 on my Viggen, and stock size is 215/45R17. I don't get any rubbing when turning, and I prefer the handling and the look of the car with the larger tires. The speedometer error is calculated by the difference in circumference, which is of course related to the radius by the formula 2*pi*r. But many cars come out of the factory with a slight speedometer error anyway - reading higher than actual. You just have to time yourself on the highway at constant speed between mile markers to see what the result of your tire size change is.
