Assuming that your device was in-warranty / under AppleCare? If so, then bearing with the inconvenience is probably the best you can do. If not, DIY or an independent repair specialist are viable options; the former is the method I use most often. (iFixit.com has a trove of helpful procedures.) FWIW, I’ve used a Mac since 1991 and owned them since the mid-90s.
Scott brings up a good point, which is to have a backup solution if you can’t afford too much downtime. In our household, we have all Apple products: a desktop, a laptop, an iPad, and two iPhones. Plus backups to external storage and to iCloud.
