Interesting Saab news from the Paris Auto Show

Another new Saab engine
Another GM brand, Saab, will be in Paris, too. The Saab variable-compression engine will be on display, as it was early in 2000 at the auto show in Geneva.
But Saab officials will have more engine technology in Paris, where they'll showcase the next development in their work on a Saab combustion control system. The system mates a spark directly to a piston, creating a 50,000-volt ignition system. A variable gap between the spark and piston can help control the system's operation and match it to demands based on driving conditions.
Saab will also show a new type of variable valve timing system and a unique direction injection system. "They are technologies for the future that could be incorporated with the variable compression engine," a Saab spokesman said.
