You really feel that the Passat was on par with the 9-5? I've been looking at the 2001 and 2001.5 Passats and they're pretty impressive. I am always hearing good things about them--would you recommend the Passat? I love my Saab, but my family is looking for a wagon and the 9-5 is just too much when I can buy a nice passat for $23k.
I agree wholeheartedly--Saab needs to raise the quality if they're going to charge that much. Also, since when was Saab an exorbitantly expensive luxury car?? I harken back to the days when people who weren't independently wealthy could actually afford these things (i.e. a 1993 900S costing around $22k--a great car for an affordable price). I don't like the way things are going for Saab--I would hate to see the Saab become an elitest vehicle that only people with money can own; Saab, I think, is riding on a bit of a legacy and if they don't get their act in gear, they'll not survive.
(Don't get me wrong -- I LOVE my 89 900S! But I think Saab truly does face a crossroads).
That's my rant.
