Looks like it has a Saleen hood & wing, not very original. I'm still not impressed with the car.

It's definitely an improvement, but I really don't see why they had trouble with the aluminum block. Also, why not add some subframe connectors?
I just think it would have been nice not to have a weight penalty for this.

More power is always a step in the right direction and when the 04's come out, it's a sign that they'll likely have a potent version.

I see the T56, bigger tires also as a good benefit.

Looks cool to me. A 390HP Cobra with a minimal increase in price sounds sweet. Plus since it's huffing a mere 8psi, a pulley change should give it some impressive gains.
Moreover, I just pray this engine finds it's way into the next gen Stangs (or something better). The only thing I don't like is that iron block. That should be one nose-heavy Stang and considering all the boosted Cobras out there, they are full of shit if they are saying they were blowing the blocks apart with 400HP.

Friend of mine just traded his blown 98 Cobra in on a Z06. His car put down 460 to the wheels on stock internals, and stock pullied Vortech. I put down close to 400 at the wheels with stock pullied Vortech and stock internals on my 2V motor. Ford can't even manage to gather more horsepower than a fool like me? For $35K I'd rather buy a GT, slap a Vortech on it, wave goodbye to the new Cobras, and piss the rest of the money away in the local bar....

Well, some people enjoy not voiding their factory warranty.
Not to mention it offers a bit more than a blower. Take a GT, add a t56, a blower, Manley rods and lower comp pistons, wider rims and 275 tires, gears, alum driveshaft, a blower and Cobra brakes and see how much it costs you. You'd still be missing out on the 32V Cobra heads too. You may not care about some of that stuff but many people end up buying it and in that respect it is not a bad deal.
You can also look at it by thinking that with a pulley change, a chip and maybe a full exhaust, it should be easy to pump out quite a bit more HP from it. Just look at hte Lightnings. Not only are they a bit underrated but 50RWHP is pretty common with a chip. Add a pulley and a few other small bits and you are looking at an easy 80RWHP over stock numbers.

I think Ford needs to stop looking at caddilacs for style cues on the mustang, and get more balls when they revamp the look again. Honestly, it needs to be redesigned.
I like the performance figures. say what you may, that's nice for stock. I believe I would probably opt to put that money down and make some payments on a z06, but that cobra is pretty nice.

You're missing my point. Ford claim that they couldn't make much more power on the aluminum block, but people have already done it. A supercharger that adds just 70 HP at the crank is far from impressive. Yes, you get the extra 'Cobra bits' but 70 HP from a blower is still pretty lame. Don't get me wrong, 390HP from a factory car is a step in the right direction, but it could have been much better.

UFO: Remember ford is interested in making a car engine that will live through a ton of abuse, be reliable and run for 150000+ miles on 91 octane gas. Can the chassis handle 450hp? How about the tranny? Cooling? Emissions? NVH?
Ford has alot more to consider than just power output when it designs the car. Sure the motor COULD make 450hp but then the rest of the car must support that 450hp as well and that may involve changing to more robust and expensive parts.

I gotta admit, I'm pretty fuckin impressed. Does that mean they dealt with the little IRS problem? If they did, seems to me all you need is a pulley and some 4.10's and you're huntin ZO6's.
This car is creeping its way onto my new car possibility list.

As much as I'd like to see it produced it almost sounds too good to be true. If it does however come out I may have to think about trading mine in on one. I just about have the payments finished and I only have 9000 miles on it so I should get a pretty good trade in.

But, the cobra will still be a limited production vehicle that will hold its value much better than the GT. Not to mention an optional 5 year warranty with an "underrated" 390hp.
Wonder what exhaust, headers, and as someone else said, a pulley change would do for the car, all w/ a warranty?
But I would definetly say that the car has gained more than 70hp from an 8psi blower. I would be willing to bet that is is detuned, not to mention it has lower compression which means that it won't make as much power 'on the motor' as the higher compression previous years would.

I love to have it but these freaking little cars are too small inside for my big ass.
6-2 299lbs. The lighting is my only solution and that's not a bad one after all, but come on Ford make a stang that fits wide body's also!

I'm the guy. Are you saying the shroud is some kind of hinderance in swapping pullies? It's probably held in place with four plastic tabs.
Ford claims it will trap at 110mph. Sounds like mid to high 12's. If that's true, a smaller pulley and 4.10 gears would put you square in ZO6 territory. If I'm way off base, let me know.

I agree. But this is the case with just about ALL factory forced induction cars. They all make low power out of the box, and usually nothing more than a chip/exhaust/boost controller or pully change will provide a lot more horsepower. Look at the WRX, 1.8T, or GSX/GS-T. All of these cars put out mediocre numbers from the factory, but for under $1000 you can get each of them to run .5 to 1 second faster (or better) in the 1/4 mile.

Look at it from Ford's perspective:

This car needs to be reliable as an everday driver. It needs to run on pump gas. It needs to meet insurance and gas mileage regulations.

I'm betting we'll see these cars putting out 400+ horsepower at the WHEELS for under $1000 in mods.

Ford guys have been screaming for a 350+ horsepower factory Stang that didn't cost as much as a friggin Vette for AGES. Well here it is, and they still whine..

If this is typical of Ford then expect the next Cobra to be even more powerful. They wont shoot themselves in the foot by offering the next version of the Cobra with less than this one.
Doesn't look to me like Ford is resting on anything despite the demise of the F-bodies.
