When I first saw your response I thought that you were probably talking about one of the more expensive parts of the country, i.e. from Boston to D.C. or somewhere on the left coast.
As for going overseas, I would do it. My parents took a couple year assignment in New Zealand when I was in Grad. School. I went to visit them and loved it. If I didn't have a quasi-fiance at the time (now my wife). I probably would have moved there to live, maybe even permanently.
