First, SAAB is not dead and the current situation is in fact not even SAABs fault.
GM has pushed SAAB to develop more new products, these cost money that because of the global car market downturn SAAB does not have.
GM decided that it would be good to support SAAB by buying parts in Sweden from SAAB to use in other GM brands, but fact is that these orders are currently too small to have a positive effect for SAAB, in fact they just hurt SAAB.
Much of the losses per car SAAB faces currently is due to the fact that parts purchased from OPEL in Germany are far too expensive for what they are.
OPEL is currently the main reason why SAAB is doing baddly. OPEL has screwed up pretty much every new car released in the past 3 years. The new Corsa (subcompact) does not sell, the new Vectra (compact) does not sell and so on. You just need to look at these cars to know why they don't sell... 1st they don't look good and 2nd they are too expensive cause made in W.Europe. This led OPEL to charge SAAB more for their parts.
If GM want's do restructure Europe's operations, there is just one way to do that... "CLOSE ALL GERMAN and BRITISH OPEL PLANTS" first. Move the factories to lower wage areas ... Poland, Spain and so on.
GM is waisting much attention on OPEL which is a dead brand, the only OPELs you can sell are those that are low priced.
Example: The price hike between the new and the old OPEL Corsa was 40% from one year to the next... how can that work ???? Customers just go out and buy some better car for the price OPEL charges for a new Corsa.
Simply said... there is no such thing as a market for expensive OPELs. GM is just affraid of GERMAN and BRITISH unions.

Coolknight
