Aspen and Vail have been using Saab police cars since the days of the 99 back in the mid-70s. I was out there in 85 and they had 900T 4drs with shotguns jammed in the door pockets.... pretty weird. Was back for SOC99 and stopped at Vail where there was an area cordoned off for the Rockies tour. The female officer let me sit in the car (9-5) and told me that the only mod they made was bigger batteries, due to all the "stuff" that they use. She said they were eating batteries previous to this. That was a manual trans too, leather, etc. She said they had to have the "prisoners" ride in the front seat, as they could not put a cage in the 9-5s since it would damage it. She also said it was cheaper to run than a Tahoe-type vehicle (but of course they get them cheaper than us too) so they enjoyed them. However, she also said that they were adding a Tahoe (or perhaps the Expedition pictured) as they needed 4WD apparently at times. But hey for all the snow they get, take that all you "I need a 4wd to get around in" people!!!
