you dont want fluid from the caliper going up the line & into the master, the nasty crap all lives down in the caliper from the temp changes & whatnot there is usually some form of particulate like oxides of alum & iron
what I do & was tought back in school was to gently clamp off the line & open the bleder when you colapse the caliper
the teacher passed around a piece of brake line & a clamp for us to play with & the line will not be dammaged as long as you understand that it takes verry little pressure from mabey needle nose vise grips to clamp the line shut, they do make decent line clamps for this purpose as well
