a gentleman by the name of Joe Marone bought my SPG about 6 months ago or more, it was before carls viggen project I believe.
anyway I did finally get the engine apart & found #4 piston to be cracked between the uper & second compression rings (typical pre ignition breakage) nothing actually broke off though till I wedged a screwdriver in there & broke the pieces out, so the cylinders were friggin perfect :-)
the 85 pistons I used in that engine last time I rebuilt it were pretty loose (you could see the top ring) & the ones Im using this time are much much tighter (you cannot see the top ring or move the piston)
but the chain, guides, bearings are all like 1.5 years old & I ended up using new rod bearings for good measure :-) the head is fresh HUGE ported & CCd 85 head with backcut & blended valves, the crank is ballanced to the lightened flywheel & the rods are all ballanced too
the trans (long 4 speed & turbo (T3/T0460 .63) only have like 1500 miles on them & I just put in a new reverse idler gear in it, as it had the rong one in it & it poped out of reverse.
the phantom grip is there & totally intact but just dosent do much & I think thats partially to the redline shockproof lite in there but I do think phantom grips are a waste of time in our cars
I will have the car running tomarrow & then will have about a week to tune it for him Ill be using 42 lb hour injectors in it :-) we will see how the batchfire (2.2 LH system) likes them apples :-)
I talked him into doing more modest tuning with the car, basically because I was afraid to break the trans durring tuning, on the dyno or for the car to be short lived for him.
the turbo, split downpipe with 35mm external WG, 3 inch exhaust, turbo, intake & head porting should suport well above 350BHP & at those levels with a clasic the trans wouldent last long so I think we are beter off leaning a little more on the longevity side then tward the friggin "KILL IT" side :-)
well .... I think thats about it & I wanted to thank Joe for all his patients with me & the time its taken me to get the car together for him
he is flying in on the 11th, just a few days from now for the car :-)
see you then Joe :-)
take care
JAK
