Turbocharger oil filter Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Thu, 1 Oct 2009 07:11:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Has anybody rigged a separate oil filter into their turbo's oil supply line. I just went through two rebuilt turbochargers that only lasted about 3 months each. Given that I'd never had any issues until I had this particular rebuilder do the work, I question whether he was simply not very skilled, got lousy bearings (his original explanation), or I've got dirty oil (his explanation when the 2nd one failed). BTW, each time I put the turbo back on the car, I cleaned the oil supply line, and changed the oil.
I've got a used turbo from Fleabay on the car now, so I'll be curious to see if the same problem resurfaces, but after reading the posts below, I was thinking of having a local hydraulic shop make up a new oil supplyu line with a separate filter for me.
So has any body done this? Do you think their might be a downside, like a slight delay on start-up that starves the turbo for the oil to overcome the resistance of the filter? Anbody know of kit, or any other special requirements for such a set-up? TIA>
