Well I installed my VDO boost gauge this past weekend, p/n VDO-150063D from Summit Racing. I would like to thank the members of this site for their help along the way.

Here are my observations after the install. Contrary to some suggestions there was no need to pull down all the carpet in the footwell, or remove the foam inuslation from the inside fire wall. You will need to remove the lower driver's side dash with attached sound proofing and pull a small bit of carpet away from the lower edge of driver's door opening to expose ground location. Grommet for running vac line through firewall is 10-12" above clutch pedal and slightly to the left. It is 3 or 4" in diameter and has a 1" wiring harness run through the center of it. There is ample room to put a slice through the rubber in the space next to the harness to run your vac line through. I poked the grommet out from inside the car, then removed the fuse box by master cylinder under hood to gain access. With the grommet free of the firewall I could grasp it firmly in hand and make the required incision. I then ran the vac line through the grommet into the car and re-installed the grommet. I realize that it may seem easy to do when reading about it, but in reality it was a big PITA, much more difficult than I anticipated. At 6' 2" and 260lbs, trying to lay on my back with my shoulders on the driver's side floor and the rest of my body protruding out the door was a challenge. Make sure you have a flashlight or equivalent so you can see up behind the dash.

The rest of the install was pretty painless. I grabbed a stainless 1/4" tee from work and tapped into the MAP sensor line after replacing that line with new vac hose. I ran 12' feet of new vac line into the car so I could fiddle with placement before hard mounting the gauge.

I used another Saab site as a reference for which wire to tap into for +12v from dimmer switch and spliced into it with no problems. I grounded to the right-most nut of the two factory grounds located on the lower edge of door opening beneath the carpet by loosening the nut, inserting the wire and re-tightening the nut.

For my particulate model of gauge I needed a reducer to attach the vac line. The gauge has 3/8" (?) threaded male fitting. I found a 3/8" (?) female to 1/4" nipple fitting at parts store and screwed it on with thread tape.

This was for a '97 900 SET- no idea whether other NG 900's will vary.
