Although the debate over filter media is interesting, I think it misses the point. There seems to be consensus that the stock airbox & snorkle are extremely restrictive. Since nobody has developed a better airbox, the solution is to bolt a filter (K&N or other) directly onto the AMM. As far as I know, there isn't a paper filter that bolts to the AMM, so you're left with K&N, K&N clones, and foam filters.
Some say that a paper filter in the airbox flows air just as good as an empty airbox. That may be true, but it totally ignores how badly the empty airbox flows to begin with!
